HERRIMAN — Marli Sanford scored a golden goal in the 83rd minute as No. 19 Fremont High girls soccer won 2-1 at No. 3 Mountain Ridge (14-3) in the 6A second round Tuesday night.

Ashlyn Gwynn scored in the 36th minute on a Maggie Ware assist for Fremont (6-12). The Silverwolves will face No. 11 Skyridge in the quarterfinals.

SYRACUSE — No. 9 Layton outshot No. 8 Syracuse 4-2 in penalty kicks to break a 1-1 tie and claim a 6A second-round contest.

Cortney Cobabe scored a first-half goal on an Avery Sanders assist for No. 8 Syracuse (11-7).

No. 9 Layton (11-7) did not report stats. The Lancers advance to play at top-seeded Lone Peak on Thursday.

FARMINGTON — Swayzee Arnell netted a hat trick as No. 5 Farmington blanked No. 12 Bingham (9-9) in the 6A second round.

Kira Hampshire scored once for No. 5 Farmington (12-5). Brynlee Austin had two assists while Whitney Avei and Bella Sackett each assisted once. Emmy McKeon and Issy Hoskins shared the clean sheet.

The Phoenix advances to face No. 4 Roy Thursday at Roy in the quarterfinals.

KAYSVILLE — No. 7 Davis netted five times in the second half and Elesha Magley kept the clean sheet in a 6A second-round win over No. 23 Copper Hills (5-13).

Emery Jacobs scored a hat trick for No. 7 Davis (11-5). Liv Flint had a goal and three assists. Brooklyn Phongsavath scored once and assisted once. Beth Neville, Elle Taylor and Jessi Larkin each scored once.

The Darts will face either No. 2 American Fork or No. 15 Corner Canyon in the quarterfinals Thursday.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Layton High’s David Liechty shot a 7-under-par 137 to finish fifth place at the 6A boys golf state tournament at Talons Cove Golf Club. Liechty had rounds of 5-under 67 and 2-under 70.

Davis’ Max Landon and Farmington’s Cole Taylor tied for ninth place at 2-under.

Fremont High finished fourth as a team with an even-par 576, led by Luke Dalebout and Chase Burton finishing at 1-under.

Lone Peak’s Kihei Akina won medalist honors with a 16-under after stringing consecutive 8-under 64s. His teammate Cooper Jones had the low round of the tournament with an 11-under 61 on Monday.

LP shot 43-under as a team and won the team championship by 27 shots over Corner Canyon.

TOOELE — Box Elder High’s boys golf team finished in third place at the 5A state tournament at Oquirrh Hills Golf Course. The Bees 20-over-par 596 in the two-round tournament, one shot ahead of Spanish Fork and two shots ahead of East.

Individually, Bonneville golfer Parker Bunn took fourth place by carding a two-day 141 (3-under). Bunn shot even-par 72 in the first round and 3-under 69 in Tuesday’s second round. Box Elder golfer Edyn Tueller was 2-under individually and finished sixth, and teammate Dyson Lish tied for 10th by shooting 1-over in the tournament.

Skyline High’s Jackson Shelley shot 9-under to win medalist honors. Skyline won the team title with a 2-under 574.

PLAIN CITY — Syracuse won at Fremont in straight sets, 25-14, 25-23, 25-11, and combined with Davis’ loss to Weber, the Titans clinched at least a share of the Region 1 championship.

Kallie Johansen 12 kills for Syracuse (19-8, 9-0 Region 1). Mikelle Neilson served four aces, Tehana Mo’o posted three blocks, Kambree Rodriguez tallied 11 digs and Brilyn Jensen dished out 28 assists.

Fremont (5-16, 4-5) did not report stats.

KAYSVILLE — Weber beat Davis 25-12, 15-25, 29-27, 25-19.

Aubrey Nielson and Loryn Helgesen each hit 13 kills for Davis (19-7, 7-3 Region 1) and Aimee Larsen had 36 assists.

Weber (14-12, 6-4) didn’t report stats.

WEST VALLEY CITY — Kjerstin Waite tallied four aces, six kills and eight digs as Roy (7-12, 6-3 Region 2) fell in straight sets at Hunter. Scores were 25-18, 25-20, 25-14.

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful swept Northridge (21-5, 6-2 Region 5) by scores of 25-8, 25-10, 25-20.

Jordyn Harvey had 16 kills, five digs and one ace for Bountiful (23-1, 7-0 Region 5). Evalyn Chism added 25 assists, six kills and five aces. Claire Cook tallied five kills, eight digs and one ace.
